You will need...

  • 1 jar
  • 1 apple

  • 2 cups (~ 473 grams) filtered water
  • ~40 grams coarsely ground Fireside coffee
  • A filter or fine strainer
  • Creamer of choice (optional)

For more in-depth instructions, follow the steps below...

Step 1: Add ground coffee and fruit of choice

A typical ratio for cold brew is 1 cup ground coffee to 4 cups of water. We've halved this volume to fit comfortably in a 32 oz mason jar and yield two 8 oz servings.

In any sealable jar, add ~40 grams of coarsely ground coffee. You can use a coffee sock if you would like to skip the later filtering step.

In honor of fall, we recommend adding the classic combination of apple and cinnamon. Add at least 1 stick of cinnamon and half a large honeycrisp apple to the jar. Increase the surface area for flavor transfer by slicing in several pieces. We recommend adding an apple with a flavor profile leaning more sweet than tart (e.g. Honeycrisp, Fuji, Ambrosia, etc.).

Step 2: Add water and steep.

Room temperature, filtered water works great. Add 2 cups. Seal, shake to mix, and leave overnight at minimum. You can leave on the counter or in the refrigerator.

Step 3: Filter & serve.

The next day, your slow steeped cold brew is ready. If you haven't used a coffee sock, filter through a rinsed paper filter. Serve, or store in the refrigerator. Flavors deepen and intensify the longer you leave your cold brew. We recommend consuming the finished product within 48 hours post-soak.

Step 5: Enjoy!

This recipe is a great way to achieve a "strong" cup of coffee without the bitterness that can come from over-extracting in hot water. The addition of apple lends a surprising, natural, and delicate sweetness which perfectly balances medium roast Fireside. While it tastes great as-is, you also can't go wrong with a splash of half and half or your favorite milk steamed with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Enjoy!
