Crafted with Care : Black Oak Art
Summer Moon CoffeeThe Makers Behind Our Merch
At Summer Moon, what we serve and what we share matters.
From the coffee in your cup to the mug in your hands, we believe in craftsmanship, community, and creating things that last. That’s why, whenever possible, we partner with American makers, small businesses, and artisans who share our values: care in the details, pride in the process, and a belief that everyday moments can be something special.
Not every item we offer is made this way, but it’s a commitment we return to again and again. Because when something is made with intention, you can feel it.
A Closer Look: Black Oak Art
Founded in 2013 with a single kiln in a garage, Black Oak Art began with a simple idea: create custom ceramic mugs that people love to use every day.

What started as a small operation has grown into a thriving Texas pottery studio, now home to more than 20 local artisans, each bringing their own skill and creativity to the craft.
Founder Jonathan Martin discovered his passion for clay in high school, went on to study Studio Art at Baylor, and ultimately left both teaching and a stint in Silicon Valley to pursue pottery full-time. From that decision came the signature Black Oak mug, designed to be both beautiful and deeply functional.

Today, Black Oak Art has become one of Texas’s premier makers of handmade ceramics, while staying true to its roots: craftsmanship, community, and a hands-on approach to every piece.
Following Jonathan’s passing, the studio continues under the leadership of his wife, Sara, alongside partners Lauren and Jayden Brazda. They carry forward his vision of creating meaningful, handcrafted work while supporting a growing community of artisans.

The result? Mugs and ceramics that feel grounded, intentional, and made to be part of your daily ritual.
