Crafted with Care : Deneen Mugs & Ceramics
Summer Moon CoffeeThe Makers Behind Our Merch
At Summer Moon, what we serve and what we share matters.
From the coffee in your cup to the mug in your hands, we believe in craftsmanship, community, and creating things that last. That’s why, whenever possible, we partner with American makers, small or family-owned businesses, and artisans who share our values: care in the details, pride in the process, and a belief that everyday moments can be something special.
Not every item we offer is made this way, but it’s a commitment we return to again and again. Because when something is made with intention, you can feel it.
A Closer Look: Deneen Pottery
Founded in 1972 in Saint Paul, Minnesota by Peter and Mary Deneen, Deneen Pottery began with a simple idea: create handcrafted stoneware that people use and cherish every day.

What started as a small family pottery studio has grown into a nationally recognized maker of custom mugs, while still honoring the same hands-on craftsmanship that defined its early days.
Each Deneen mug is handled by 24 pairs of hands, shaped and finished by skilled artisans to ensure the highest quality. Known for their iconic relief-style medallion designs, their work can be found in coffee shops, national parks, and communities across the country.
More than 50 years later, Deneen Pottery remains proudly family-owned under Niles Deneen, blending heritage craftsmanship with modern creativity. Each piece created tells a story of place and tradition.

The result? A mug that doesn’t just hold your coffee, but becomes your favorite one to reach for, morning after morning.
